On Thursday, Joe came to my house to asses an electrical problem that we have been having with our microwave. It is a Whirlpool, and is less than 2 years old and still under a builders warranty, as it was installed with the build of our home. He took apart the appliance in order to see the wiring behind the front panel. Upon doing this, he asked me if I had a bottle of oil that spilled from the cabinet above, down into the microwave. When I told him no, he proceeded to ask me “are you telling me the truth?” I reiterated with “again no, I haven’t opened that cabinet since we moved into the house almost 2 years ago.” He then asks me if I frequently fry food on the stove beneath the microwave, because apparently the entire inside of the microwave’s wiring area was completely covered in oil. He pulled out the filter underneath (which was hardly even dirty) and told me that I need to clean it more often, and that because I didn’t, this was the reason that my microwave was full of oil and was shocking us and often shorting out. First of all, I fry food with oil MAYBE twice a month. I use the microwave fan when I do, and it is never for a long period of time, as we are a family of 2 adults and a small child, so I don’t need to make a large amount of food. Second, I have lived in many homes in my life, some old and some brand new, and I have NEVER been shocked multiple times by my microwave, especially by one that is still to be considered new. At this point Joe tells me that you all “are not a cleaning company,” and the only way to fix the problem is to take the microwave apart, clean it out, and replace certain parts, therefore he was going to inform whirlpool that the appliance is irreparable. Being under warranty, I assumed that wouldn’t be an issue, and that it would just be replaced as a whole. Instead, Joe calls whirlpool, and tells them that the microwave is irreparable because I failed to clean the filter, which ultimately the cause of my microwave being ruined. When whirlpool called me 10 minutes later, they let me know that because Joe has reported this information back to them, and it states in the owners manual that one must clean the filter often, that they would not be honoring their end of the warranty. Here’s the thing, to me it sounds like your guy Joe is either lazy himself, or that your company as a whole is advising your employees to do the bare minimum to get paid and get by. Had he just REPAIRED the problem like he was sent out to do, and not basically told me that he “didn’t feel like doing it the hard way,” I would not be having to spend hundreds of dollars replacing an appliance that is still new and was hardly used. The man was here for barely 10 minutes, came to a quick conclusion, and left without even leaving behind a single piece of paper. He never once insinuated that there could be any sort of defect with the ventilation system, ran the appliance, pushed a single button, or checked the fan himself. Bottom line is that I’m extremely disappointed with the experience, and will absolutely never recommend that anyone use your company, as all you have done is waste my time and cost me a lot of money.
