2. Child Lock is Activated

• How to Diagnose: Look for a small smiley face icon or a lock symbol on the display.
• The Solution: Press and hold the two buttons on your specific model that have the Child Lock icon next to them. This is often the Temp and Rinse buttons, held simultaneously for about three seconds. The lock icon should disappear, and the door will unlock.

3. Give it a Minute

After a wash cycle finishes, it’s normal for the door lock mechanism to take one to three minutes to disengage. This is a safety feature.

• The Solution: Simply wait a few minutes after the cycle has ended. You should hear a distinct “click” when the lock releases. If you’re in a hurry, try turning the machine off and then on again to reset the lock mechanism.

If you’ve drained the washer, checked the child lock, and waited a few minutes, the problem may be with the door lock assembly itself. Over time, this electronic component can fail.

• How to Diagnose: If none of the above steps work, and the machine is definitely empty of water, the lock is the likely culprit. This is an internal component that needs to be tested and replaced.
• The Solution: Due to the complexity of accessing and replacing the door lock assembly, this repair is best left to a professional. Attempting to fix it yourself can lead to further damage to the door or the machine’s electronics.
